Conventional bananas comprise 72% of all U.S. banana purchases. The 2021 U.S. volume was down by 1% while organic banana volume rose by 5%. Guatemala (50%) and Costa Rica (17%) rank #1 & 2 for supplying most of the banana volume to the U.S during the first half of 2022. Comparing a 6-month YTD period, January – June 2020 – 2022 while Ecuador is the leading exporter of organic bananas to the U.S. market.
