In Peru, heavy rains caused by the El Niño phenomenon in the northern and central coastal regions, combined with drought in the central and southern highlands, reduced the productivity of many crops. The most evident impact in 2023 was the surge in the price of key lime, as low production resulted from poor flowering due to prolonged rainfall. Mangoes were also affected, as high temperatures exceeding 70°F prevented flowering—a process that typically occurs at 61°F in July.
