Canada and China play key roles in the U.S. produce supply chain. While Canada dominates fresh vegetable exports, China is a major source of processed produce like garlic and apple juice.
In fact, the U.S. imported over $124 million worth of fresh garlic from China between June 2023 and May 2024, a 51% increase compared to the previous year.
But with tariffs as high as 376% on Chinese garlic, the pressure on costs and supply continuity is growing. These policy shifts ripple beyond trade—they directly impact grocery prices and sourcing strategies across the U.S. food system.
